Week 32

My very good friend and colleague has been working on a project which has existed for a couple years.  The program "Dream Job Academy" encourages students to ask questions and reflect emotionally on their experiences and what they want to do. Rather than leaving the program with a plan, students often leave the program feeling more comfortable with the unknown. I think this program is awesome; and when I was invited to attend the open house I was really excited! It was great to see the projects students worked on over the six weeks.

Description:
Hart House and the Career Centre have teamed up to bring you the unique Dream Job Academy  series. The Dream Job Academy is a career exploration program designed to help students explore passions, values and potential careers.
Over the course of six sessions, you will engage in arts, narrative and play-based activities and experiences designed to help you:
  • Realize and recognize your passions
  • Engage in career exploration and find your “dream job”
  • Meet people and make new friends
This event was a showcase of the work students completed.

Experience:
  • Attended the event, grabbed some food
  • Chatted with participants of the Dream Job Academy
  • Took a look at their projects

What I learned:
  • The program was really transformation for many of the students
  • It looked beyond the traditional "job finding"; and really encouraged students to embrace the messiness of their experiences
  • Forced students to really reflect and be emotional/vulnerable during their time in the program
  • Seemed amazing based on what students told me!
