Week 41
This one might be cheating a bit. I've been an "core committee" (executive) member of the Student Affairs Society for the past three years in different capacities. This year I've taken more of a backseat role but I've still enjoyed being involved! I think there is incredible value in having a community of graduate students; especially those new to the field. For me, the Student Affairs Society has been a source of consistency and an opportunity to meet new students in the program. Anyways, tangent! We hosted our first ever alumni event/panel which was really fun!

This event involves a meet & greet reception, a keynote presentation from OISE Dean Glen Jones, a Q&A alumni panel, and discussion groups. Light dinner will be served!

Experience:
- The planning process was stressful, especially for the two co-chairs of the group, but the event itself came together beautifully!
- The food was great, and it was amazing to see so many alumni come back to chat
- I was live streaming the session which gave people the opportunity to see the session in action
- Learned a lot from alumnus and had a lot of fun!
What I learned:
- The alumni we had were amazing! One alumnus, Jen who works at Ryerson said something that really put into words my sentiment around the OISE program (especially as I get close to graduation), she said that "as practitioners we often know what something's happening, we have that gut feeling...and sometimes we know how to fix it but we don't actually know the Why. This program provides you with that foundation and the understanding of the Why."
- For me, a lot of what the alumni said about their time in the program really resonated with me and helped me reflect on my own experience :)
