Week 46

Happy International Women's Day! A couple of the superstar student staff  in our department organized this event, and it was absolutely fantastic.  While it isn't a Women's Day event, the emphasis on Women in Leadership was a great celebration of awesome people.

Description:

LeadHERship is a women’s leadership event where students, alumni, faculty and administration come together to enjoy food, network and foster mentor-mentee relationships.

Students, staff, faculty and community members will engage and learn about more inclusive and holistic notions of leadership, what’s happening on campus and interesting facts and endeavours through connecting with other women. Students will also discuss their personal leadership style and ways in which they are affected or enhanced by gender.
This event is open to all students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members!

Experience:
  •  Hart House Lunch (yum)
  • 15 minute speaker, followed by group discussion at tables
  • Three rounds of speaker/discussion

What I learned:

  • First off, I really really enjoy this format; it's nice to have some time to discuss concepts after someone's spoken
  • There's some really fantastic research happening across the university in different departments
  • Really great to hear from different women on their research which is largely intersectional
  • It was a nice way for me to connect concepts I've learned in class into a different context
