Week 9
This event was in my calendar for quite a while as well. OISE had been recruiting for this one for a while - pumping out the promo materials. Turns out (which I didn't know) it was some bit annual lecture series event. Go figure! It was interesting, definitely more for the K-12 folks, but a nice event to end Mental Health Month.

Experience:
- Walked in and there was a drink ticket (another?! Dang!) and AMAZING food…already having a blast
- Lecture style which was really engaging followed by a mix and mingle which I didn’t stay for
- It did actually reflect what the title was, and was relevant to the people who were in the room
- Talk was centered around elementary school children
- Access problem (access to school) is solved, but now we need to focus on mental health – instead of diagnoses, need to look at the role of schools and environment
- Linear relationship between the number of adverse childhood experiences and the issues experienced in childhood – issues included physical ones
- Prevent children from developing leading to different conditions
- Schools blame parents, but children spend most of their time at school
- Need to look at the environment and the teacher’s impact on mental health – with this in mind we also need to look at the role a teacher plays and the huge amount of knowledge they have on students
